"I am dedicated to recreate spirit in my art bringing forth good energy which
fuels the heart and soul. It is important that I inspire others to be
creative. May the health of these Sacred Salmon be with you, a long
life, a full heart and a wet mouth! Many thanks for your continued
interest and support in my life's work."
Annie O' is an original, passionate, Northwest artist who was born in
Spokane, Washington and raised in Bellevue, WA.
She grew up with a Makah Indian brother from Neah Bay and in later years
worked with a Shaman Elder from the Shasta Nation. Her western heritage
runs deep. Texas Jack O'Mohundro rode with Buffalo Bill. Martin Nealy
O'Mohundro was well known as the "Wagon Master" in the Charlie Russell
painting out of Montana. O'Mohondro herself was a brakeman in the 1993
re-enactment of the Oregon Trail and also worked on a cattle drive.
Annie's first gallery in 1990 Chiloquin (two rivers joining) in South
Central Oregon represented 7 Nations from the region. Annie's work was
mainly on hardwood burls then. O'Mohondro has had galleries in
Langlois, (southern Oregon coast), Newport's Historic Bay Front and Bend's
two locations.
The most notable medium is her 'Impressionistic Gyotaku'
(fish rubbing) on handmade papers or fine fabrics. Traditionally fish
rubbings were invented by the Japanese before the invention of the
camera as a way to record their 'catch', typically on rice paper with
black ink. Many of O'Mohondro's works have been large public and
private installations, backlit for illumination in the unmistakable
O'Mohondro style.
Her 'Totemic" style, reminiscent of the Pacific Northwest Native Art, brings legends and history to her subjects. O'Mohondro brings yesteryear and the ever-present today by merging these two ancient styles together. Inspired by her three sons, her spirituality, nature, travel and music, these are the elements which drive her.
O'Mohondro currently works from her private Fine Art Studio in Bend, Oregon, where she continues creating as well as teaching art. The Limited Edition Giclee Reproductions are available on watercolor paper with 'deckle' edges, as well as canvas.
Her work is collected around the world and found in Fine Galleries
across the U.S. and Canada. O'Mohondro's work was selected by the Santa
Barbara Museum of Natural History for a two year tour. Notable
collectors include Kim Novak, Ted Turner, Jane Fonda, G.L.Loomis, to name a few.
