GYO-TAKU * 'fish-rubbing' is an ancient Japanese technique developed over 100 years ago by the Japanese before the invention of the camera as a way to record their catch. Traditionally black ink & rice paper are used applying the pigment to the fins and scales of the fish itself, paper is then laid over the painted fish taking a careful 'rubbing'.
Annie O's Impressionistic Gyotaku is very different from the 'traditional style'. After taking the 'rubbing' on handmade paper or fine fabric, motion, character & spirit are then added to her 'catch'. Yes, she catches her own fish!

May the health of these Sacred Salmon be with you, a long life, a full heart & a wet mouth! Salmon 'energy' brings us gifts of determination & pride. They find their way back to spawn using an amazing sense of smell, finding the one stream they were hatched in, based on its odor. If this sacred wonder has entered your awareness, it is time to put all else aside & accomplish that which is important to you. Often times it takes single-mindedness to overcome obstacles & achieve a desired goal.
